Welcome to the new web site!

Written by Dave Simon on Sunday, 10 April 2011 15:34.

Welcome to the new Brighton & Hove District Scouting web site. On 1st January 2011 the districts of Brighton and Hove & Portslade amalgamated to form the new district of Brighton & Hove.

David Simon, District Commissioner of Brighton & Hove said:

The new web site builds on the success of the previous Brighton web site. It’s the place to go for information about Brighton & Hove Scouting. For the public, there’s basic news and contact information, but I hope that it’s for the adults in Brighton & Hove Scouting that the website can make the most difference.

Over the next month all adults in the District will be allocated a user name and password which will allow them access to an ever growing treasure trove of resources.

To complement the District website, we’ve refreshed our campsite’s website too. The new Parkwood web site is available from the 'Parkwood Campsite' link on www.brightonandhovescouts.org.uk, or directly by visiting www.parkwoodcampsite.org.uk.

Justin Cruttenden, Lead Developer of the Brighton & Hove District and Parkwood web sites said:

The first version of the district web site in 2000

I'm excited to announce the forth incarnation of the district and Parkwood web sites to compliment the new www.brightonandhovescouts.org.uk web address!

Believe it or not, the first district web site was first published to the Internet in 2000!
We have a little history of the web sites on the meet the web development team page.

Some very exciting additions to the web sites are planned for the coming months!

With this version we focus on building a community between members and expanding on allowing our members to contribute to different aspects of the web site.

Dave Linscott R.I.P.

Written by Catherine Shone on Monday, 06 December 2010 22:26.

It is with great sadness that the 30th Brighton Scout Group announce the passing of Dave Linscott (Woody).

Dave has guided so many young people through the Scout movement over the years, he will leave a big hole, not only in the 30th, but throughout Brighton Scout District.

Our thoughts are with Pat and her family at this sad time.

Dave's funeral is at 2.00 p.m. on Wednesday 8th December 2010 at Lyminster Church Hall. Scouters are to wear full uniform, no black, no flowers. Any donations should go to Brighton District Scout Council.

NetEx 2010

Written by on Saturday, 16 October 2010 17:40.

On the weekend of 18th/19th September, a team from the Three Deans ESU, consisting of Susie Barden, Finn & Arran Belden and Alfie Cook, entered the NetEx competition at Bushy Wood campsite.  The weekend consisted of a variety of activities and challenges including a crystal maze based challenge, pioneering, a Eurovision inspired music contest, backwoods cooking, combined skills, a first aid scenario and various hilarious wide games.

The weekend was an incredibly enjoyable experience and we got the chance to test out our scouting skills and have lots of fun at the same time. It was also really great to meet other explorers from around the county, as well as represent our own district.

By the beginning of the second day the scores were pretty close, but due to our perseverance, planning, teamwork, exceptional balloon gathering ability and perhaps a little bit of luck we ended up winning the competition. We received a unique trophy featuring a mannequin which we now must add our own twist to. We’re really pleased at the turnout and would like to thank to EDSFAT for putting on the event, as we all had a really great time.

Gilwell 24

Written by on Saturday, 16 October 2010 17:35.

On the weekend of 10th/11th July a group of Explorers - Susie Barden, Arran Belden, Finn Belden, Jamie Deans, Luke Larsson, Nick Smith, Sam Smith & Jordan Taylor - from the Three Deans Unit went up to Gilwell Park for 24 hours of non-stop activities. These included fishing, wood turning, mountain boarding, scuba diving, abseiling, shooting, archery, guitar hero and even a flying trapeze. It was an excellent opportunity to meet other explorers, test our endurance and have an amazing time.

Although not all of us quite managed to stay awake for the full 24 hours, we all still had a brilliant time. It was a great chance to do things we’d never experienced before. There was a great atmosphere and the amount of explorers attending from all around the country was unbelievable.
