Cub Mystery Trip

Written by Penny Walker.

On Saturday 24th September 2011, 8 coaches, 371 cubs (185 from Brighton & Hove) went on the East Sussex County Cub Mystery Trip.

It was a beautiful day, and cubs and leaders started to join coaches from 7.00 a.m., not having a clue where they were heading. 4 coaches arrived at Arundel Wetlands and Wildfowl Trust, and the other 4 to Portsmouth Historic Dockyard. Around late morning all cubs and leaders met in Portsmouth. The cubs were able to visit HMS Victory, HMS Warrior, have fun in Action Stations, visit Museums and go on a boat trip around the harbour. Then another swap as half went back to Arundel to watch the wildlife, feed the exotic wildfowl and enjoy the Wetlands and Wildfowl park.

During the day, I had numerous questions from visitors to Portsmouth, as I was based there, asking me where we were from and saying what a credit we were to Scouting and how well behaved everyone had been. The Management at the dockyard also commented on the good behaviour, a bonus to a long day which I hope everyone enjoyed as much as I did.

All 8 coaches then returned to various parts of Sussex, around 7.00 p.m., each cub with a goody bag, certificate and quiz book to remind them or their great day out.
